Zoho Creator alternative: build it or have it set up?

A Zoho Creator alternative or Kissflow alternative? What each platform is, when it is the better choice, and when to have one process set up for you.

5 min read · 27 Sept 2026

Somebody in the office said, "We can build our own app on Zoho Creator." An account was opened and the first form was made. Three months later the form is still half finished, because the person who started it also runs dispatch. Now you are searching for a Zoho Creator alternative. Before you compare products, ask a simpler question: who in your business will build the app, and who will keep it running?

What Zoho Creator and Kissflow are

Both are platforms on which a business builds its own apps. You get the tools. The order register or the enquiry list is yours to make.

Zoho Creator is made by Zoho Corporation, which describes it as a low-code platform for building custom apps. You drag and drop the parts of an app on the screen. Where that is not enough, you write the logic in Deluge, Zoho's own scripting language. Zoho says every app you build also comes as an app for iPhone and Android. It is charged per user, monthly or yearly. There is a free edition and a free trial.

Kissflow is made by Kissflow Inc. Its website describes a platform for building enterprise apps with low-code and no-code: apps, forms, workflows and approvals that business users build on the screen, while the IT team governs and developers extend them. Its price is by quote, and it offers a demo.

When Zoho Creator or Kissflow is the better choice

Pick the platform, and do not look for an alternative, when:

  • You have a builder. One person who enjoys this work, has hours for it every week and is likely to stay.
  • You need many apps, not one. Ten different forms and approvals across departments are quicker to build yourself than to order one by one.
  • Your process is still changing. You want to add a field or a step the same afternoon, without asking anybody.
  • You have an IT team. Kissflow's website describes exactly this: departments build, IT keeps control.

In these cases the platform gives you a freedom that no set-up system will.

Low-code or custom software: what really differs

Low-code does not mean no work. Somebody still decides the fields, the stages, who may see what, and which report the owner reads in the evening. The real difference is who does that work, and who is there when it has to change.

Question Zoho Creator or Kissflow A system set up for your process
Who sets it up? You, your staff, or a developer you hire We do, on your own data, in about two weeks
How is it charged? Zoho Creator: per user, monthly or yearly. Kissflow: by quote A fixed one-time price and a flat monthly plan that is not per user
Whose process does it follow? Whatever you build Yours, one process at a time
Who changes it next year? The person who built it You ask us. What the monthly plan covers is written down
Who do you call when it stops? Your builder for the app, the vendor for the platform One point of contact

A one-week test before you choose

  1. Write the process on one page: who enters what, who approves, and what you want to read every evening.
  2. Name the builder. One person, with fixed hours each week. If you cannot name one, you have your answer.
  3. On Zoho Creator, use the free edition or the trial and build only the first form. With Kissflow, ask for a demo of a process like yours.
  4. Enter ten real records from last week. Note what did not fit.
  5. Make one entry from a phone in the godown, and time it.
  6. Ask: if the builder is on leave for a month, who changes the app?
  7. Write the cost for your real number of users for three years. Put it next to a fixed setup price plus a monthly plan. The three-year comparison shows how.

Looking for a Kissflow alternative, or keeping what you have?

If apps already run well on Zoho Creator or Kissflow, keep them. Nothing has to be moved. The one process that nobody found the time to build can be set up beside them, the way Tally stays for accounts while orders are tracked elsewhere. Staff then open two links, not one. That is the cost of not waiting until somebody has the time to build it.

Which one fits you?

Choose Zoho Creator or Kissflow if you have a builder, many apps to make, or a process that changes every month. Choose a set-up system when the process is clear, it hurts every week, and nobody in the business has the hours to build it. We set up one process at a time on your own data: the systems are listed under Apps, and the prices and plan terms are on Services.
